This is me

Who am I

I am an Australian living the dream in Singapore. I love to travel the world for work yet am equally happy to stay home, play music, eat and share great food with friends and family. Trained as research scientist i found my passion for discovering and sharing something new every day. Now i help others discover their strengths.

My Career Journey

I grew up in the UK and attended the University of Cambridge gaining a Masters Degree in chemistry before moving to Perth Australia to complete my PhD entitled In Situ Raman Spectroscopic Studies of the Iron and Calcium containing Biominerals in Chiton Teeth. I conducted my post-doctoral research on acid mine site drainage and river stream pollution at the University of California in Davis before being awarded an Australian Research Council Research Fellowship and moving back to Perth to take up a position at Curtin University as a lecturer and then senior lecturer in chemistry. In the early 2000’s the resources boom in Western Australia saw many organisations look at non traditional talent pools to staff the increasing number of mines and other resource facilities that were being developed. I made the transition to industry as an organisational development specialist and began a long career as a learning and development professional with the major iron ore and then oil and gas companies in Australia. Throughout my career in Australia I have been commuting to and from Singapore, where I am a permanent resident, each week - the ultimate FIFO in many ways. COVID made this impossible and after a couple of stints in 2 week hotel isolation I made the decision to permanently relocate to Singapore and leave my full time employment in the oil and gas pipelines world to start a new career as my own boss.

What can we do together

So here I am ready to work with you. I still work with my last company AGIG on L&D projects and as a training content developer and with AJ Stack Solutions creating technical training content for industry - see my elearning content development page but what else do I do?

I love teaching and I always have done, so I am a facilitator - see my training workshops page, an instructional designer, developer and L&D specialist. I am equally at home facilitating a training workshop or, developing whole curricula for others to deliver, individual courses for departments and business wide safety training solutions.

My role as an L&D manager in major multinational companies in mining and oil and gas means I have developed policy and procedure, managed people and lead company wide L&D projects. For example I lead the company transition to a new Learning Management system and all the data transfer to the new system from the old.

If you have an L&D project or need to up skill your workforce, ensure compliance or develop a corporate training and development strategy i can help you find the solution for your business.

How do I relax

Work is great but it is important to relax and I have two hobbies I have had for my whole life.

Railways and Model Railways

I have no idea what started it but I became interested in the Southern Railway and model railways as a young child. I bought picture books, history books and books about the working ives of people that worked for the railway. I grew up in the UK and as soon as I was old enough I started volunteering at the Bluebell Railway. I moved to Australia in 1995 which curtailed my weekly visits to Sheffield Park and the loco department so took up railway modelling.

Music

I started on my grandmothers piano plonking away followed by lessons and then the realisation I couldn’t take the instrument with me when I left home to go to university - so I bought a guitar and then another one and another and…I probably have too many still but as every guitar player will tell you they all sound different :). Once midi keyboards and programs like Logic and NI Komplete came along I got the piano back and a full music studio as well. Now if I could only find some talent to go along with the gear
